Details: This book is a gem from the golden age of model railroading, postwar through the late 50’s, when scratch building almost everything was the norm and the concepts of ready-to-run or even shake-the-box were in their infancy. Most of the plans are either from “Model Railroader” or their erstwhile publication “Model Trains.” Admittedly, many of the materials and methods are long out of date, and perhaps some of the structures themselves are crude by comparison to today’s standards. But the designs, I think, are timeless and with the fine array of scratch building materials we have (not to mention 3D printed parts) available, would be eye-catching additions to any layout. From a purely sentimental standpoint, I remember poring over the pages of this book as a kid in the 60’s and early 70’s and trying my hand at cutting up balsa, card stock and paper to create my own versions of some of these structures. For that reason alone, this book has a lot to offer. ( Amazon customer)
